Jazz Trade for Al Jefferson

The Utah Jazz are having an eventful off-season thus far. First they lost Star power forward Carlos Boozer to the Chicago Bulls. Now they have used the money they saved in him leaving on power foward Al Jefferson formerly of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Jefferson was considered a future star of the league two years ago after having a great season averaging 23.1 points 10.9 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game in the 07-08 season. Then last year, he battled injuries and ended up with a disappointing season. His 17.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game is not what the Timberwolves expected from their highest paid player.

In my opinion the addition of Kevin Love had more to do with his decline in statistics than a possible loss in ability. I would normally say that his departure to another team might return his stats to what they were pre-Kevin Love however this Utah team has many options and has another budding star in Paul Millsap. Jefferson is likely to split his PF/C minutes with Millsap and Mehmet Okur enough to where a repeat of last season's stats are more likely than a return to his earlier dominance. In the fantasy world this doesn't mean too much, but in the real world this is a great addition for Utah and should keep them in the thick of things in the Western Confernce
